Synopsis Once more, Bond is sent to track down Blofeld and SPECTRE, who are hidden away in an allergy clinic in the Swiss alps plotting to release a bacteria in key cities across the world that will induce infertility in crops, animals and humans. In an effort to infiltrate SPECTRE, Bond poses as Sir Hilary Bray from the Royal College of Heralds, and is invited to stay at the allergy clinic where he begins to unravel the details of the scheme.

Perhaps more importantly than all this, OHMSS is the film in which James Bond falls in love with, and marries,Tracy. In a pivotal moment for the Bond canon,

Blofeld kills Tracy at the end of the film, leaving Bond alone and distraught. Many references are made to this event in subsequent films.

James Bond title songs, as a rule, have the name of the movie in the chorus. That was a bit of a challenge with On Her Majesty's Secret Service, so producers opted to go with an instrumental in the opening sequence. Hal David and Burt Bacharach were brought on board to write another song for the movie, and they brought in Louis Armstrong to sing it. The 68-year-old jazz great was sick at the time, but he nailed the song in just a single take. He died less than two years later.

Description: Blofeld returns in On Her Majesty`s Secret Service 1969, this time played by Telly Savalas of Kojak fame. Under the cover of Count de Bleauchamp, Blofeld has a plan to use innocent girls as "Angels of Death" by giving them deadly germs to bring to their respective countries. If the world does not heed to his ransom, he will begin the systematic extinction of all species on earth. Bond stops him, of course, but after breaking his neck on a bobsled, Blofeld gets his revenge and helps murder Tracy.

Marc-Ange Draco is the head of one of the most powerful crime syndicates in the world and father of Tracy Bond (therefore Bond's father-in-law). He appears in both the novel and film adaptation of On Her Majesty`s Secret Service 1969 and is portrayed by Gabriele Ferzetti

After saving the life of Draco's daughter, Bond is ushered to Draco's office where the two men get to know each other for only a very short time before Draco propositions James Bond. It is suggested that 007 pursue Draco's daughter, Tracy, and marry her with a dowry of one million pounds. Draco is convinced she will benefit from the strength of a man in her life but Bond recognises she is her own women. Despite disagreeing on what would be the best for Tracy - Bond has other motives for cooperating with the mob-boss. Draco, it seems, knows where to find Ernst Stravro Blofeld.

Grunther is a henchman to Ernst Stavro Blofeld and head of security at the Piz Gloria allergy clinic. The character appears only in the film adaptation of On Her Majesty`s Secret Service 1969 and was portrayed by stuntman Yuri Borienko.

Irma Bunt - Ilse Paula Steppat
Irma Bunt is a close aide of SPECTRE chief Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
She first appears in the Ian Fleming novel On Her Majesty's Secret Service
and went on to appear in his subsequent novel, You Only Live Twice.

The character subsequently appeared in the 1969 film adaptation of
On Her Majesty's Secret Service portrayed by German actress Ilse Steppat.
The role was Steppat's first English speaking part; it would also prove to be her last.

Shaun Campbell (Bernard Horsfall)
Shaun Campbell is British Secret Service agent who appears in the 1969 James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service. He was portrayed by Bernard Horsfall.

Campbell helps Bond when he is finding about Blofeld in Gumbold's office by using a crane to deliver a safe-cracking device to Bond. Later, posing as a tourist, he tries to hitch a ride in a cable car up to Piz Gloria to contact Bond. However, he is confronted by Blofeld's heavy, Grunther, who forcefully refuses to give Campbell permission.

Campbell then decides to take events into his own hands and attempts to rock-climb up to Piz Gloria without Blofeld's guards noticing him. However unfortunately for Campbell, he is detected and captured. Blofeld briefly interrogates Campbell, to which Campbell threatens 'the authorities will hear about this'. But unfortunately, Campbell is killed before he can contact MI6 and is left swinging in front of a window with one leg tied up by a rope. Blofeld, when he exposes Bond's true identity, makes sure that Bond views Campbell's hanging body as an incentive to stay away from his operations.

Director Peter Hunt's neighbour George Baker was offered the part of Sir Hilary Bray. Baker had appeared previously as an (uncredited) NASA engineer in 1967's You Only Live Twice and would go on to portray Captain Benson, the James Bond ally in the 1977 film The Spy Who Loved Me.[1] In addition to playing Sir Hilary Bray, Baker dubbed George Lazenby's voice for the central segment of the film, where Bond is impersonating the genealogist, as Hunt considered Lazenby's imitation not convincing enough

Prison Guard

A stocky and imposing character, Grunther is Blofeld's head of security at the Piz Gloria allergy clinic; the SPECTRE chief's Alpine hideout. Along with Blofeld's closest aide Irma Bunt, he is first seen waiting for genealogist Sir Hilary Bray at a Swiss train station, unaware that Bray is actually James Bond. After welcoming Bond to Switzerland, Bunt instructs Grunther to take his luggage and they leave for the clinic.

After arriving at Piz Gloria, Grunther covertly examines Bond's luggage before taking him to his room. Bunt explains that Grunther will open his externally locked door and escort him if he needs to leave his suite. This 'complicated arrangement' is in place for all Blofeld's guests; supposedly to prevent them from disturbing one another. Consequently, Bond is under his constant supervision during his stay at the clinic.

Complications

The following morning he is seen denying Bond's Swiss contact, Shaun Campbell access to the Piz Gloria clinic as the man attempts to use the cable car. Campbell subsequently tries to scale the mountain face, but is caught by Grunther and his security team who take him prisoner, interrogate and finally execute him.

Later that evening, Bond lets himself into one of the patients' rooms only to be greeted by Fraulein Bunt and Grunther, who knocks him unconscious with a blow to the back of the head. Aware of his identity, Blofeld and Grunther escort 007 to a holding cell. On the way, Blofeld takes the opportunity to point out Campbell's grisly remains hanging from the rockface outside. Bond tries to attack him, but is restrained by Grunther.

Bond quickly escapes from his cell and takes to the slopes on a pair of stolen skis. His escape didn't go unnoticed and Grunther frantically alerts Blofeld by phone. Taking a team of men with him, he pursues Bond down the mountain before losing control and hitting a tree. Bond temporarily evades his pursuers and reunites with his fiancée, Tracy, before being relocated by Blofeld and Grunther the following day. The chase resumes across the alps, concluding with an avalanche which buries 007.

Assuming Bond to be dead, Grunther is dispatched to take the injured Tracy back to Piz Gloria. However, Bond survives the incident and assaults the clinic with the help of Tracy's father, Marc-Ange Draco. Grunther alerts Blofeld to Draco's incoming helicopters, only to have the mastermind dismiss the warning. As chaos ensues, Grunther is ordered by Blofeld to deal with Tracy. The two fight hand-to-hand, with the girl weilding a broken bottle and the guard holding a cudgel. He is killed when she impales him on a set of ornamental wall spikes hung on the wall.

After visiting almost every mountain summit in central Europe, he finally arrived in the Jungfrau Region and soon heard about the new aerial cableway to the Schilthorn. Once on the summit, facing the most spectacular Alpine view he had ever seen, he immediately realised that he’d found the perfect place. Just one week later, the film producers arrived in Mürren to visit the Schilthorn. They met Ernst Feuz and an agreement was reached within 24 hours!

The film-makers were to finish the building and furnish it according to their film needs before turning it into the revolving restaurant originally planned by the Schilthorn Aerial Cableway Company. And all paid for from the film budget! The film company was to have use of the aerial cableway for three months and the Schilthorn summit was exclusively theirs for filming. It seems hard to believe but no money ever changed hands. It was a fair exchange and no-one involved has ever regretted it!
“On Her Majesty’s Secret Service“ became a very successful film, as much for the stunning scenery as the action. The film gave the Schilthorn immense worldwide publicity, far greater than would otherwise have been possible. Today’s visitors still recognise the Schilthorn as the 007 film location and are still fascinated by it. That’s why the Schilthorn is known as the 007 mountain. Vodka martini anyone?.

The "blood-stains" have long since been washed away, the villains have long since risen from the dead and, between you and me, the revolving restaurant was never really blown up! The exciting James Bond adventure film has made the Schilthorn famous throughout the world. What links James Bond (Special Agent 007) to the Schilthorn?
In 1967, the aerial cableway had reached the top of the Schilthorn and work had started on building the revolving restaurant when the infant Schilthornbahn Company ran out of funds. It was not easy to find people willing to invest their money in the crazy idea of building a revolving restaurant at 3000 m altitude.
During winter 1967/8 the British film company planning the next 007 spectacular “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”, sent out a location scout. The film, based on a novel by Ian Fleming, called for a mountain-top location accessible only by private cable-car.

The Schilthorn, the longest aerial cableway in the Alps and the steep snowy slopes provided the perfect location for thrilling action scenes in the James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". An incomparable setting, dramatic views of snow-covered mountain peaks and a modern aerial cableway gliding all the way to the mountain summit, led United Artists to choose the Schilthorn as a stage for their spectacular production. From October 1968 to April 1969, an army of helpers transformed the Schilthorn summit into the "Piz Gloria". A helicopter landing area was constructed, which also doubled as a curling rink in the film
